LAHAD DATU: Police arrested a local man and seized 60.28 grammes of suspected syabu worth RM6,000 in a raid here on Tuesday.
They also confiscated a black Proton Saga used by the 28-year-old suspect at Mile 3 of Jalan Segama. District police chief, ACP Hamzah Ahmad said based on a tip-off they received at 11.45am, a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division went to the location and saw the man behaving in a suspicious manner inside the car. When asked, the suspect claimed to have been on his way to the town centre. “The team found a bag with drugs, believed to be syabu, folded in 26 paper packets. These were all discovered beneath the steering wheel,” said ACP Hamzah. Also present were acting Narcotics Chief for Lahad Datu, Inspector Mohd Noor Arrifin and investigation officer, Inspector Muhammad Noor Hisham Mat. According to Hamzah, the drugs were meant for the local market. Police are investigating the case framed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries a mandatory death sentence, if convicted in court. Since early December this year, there have been 48 narcotic cases recorded in Lahad Datu compared to the same period last year.
